MEMORIAL HERMANN IS PREMIER SPONSOR FOR MENTAL HEALTH BBQ

Pearland, Texas, October 5, 2023 – Counseling Connections for Change, Inc’s. Chief Executive Officer Dawn Lawless, and Development Coordinator Shannan Murray, announced today that Memorial Hermann is a Premier sponsor of the 2023 Drive Thru BBQ for mental health. Mental Health needs are critical right now and Memorial Hermann is stepping up with tremendous support.

“Mental health continues to be the basis of every human problem we are facing today whether it is homelessness, violence, crime, abuse, food insufficiency, etc. Suicide rates are at record highs”, said Dawn Lawless, CEO and Founder. Counseling Connections is a mental health nonprofit based in Pearland, Texas and serves clients in Harris, Brazoria, Galveston, and Fort Bend Counties. “Partnering with Memorial Hermann is an honor. Mental Health is critical in healthcare and the ability to bring awareness and support through this partnership is a tremendous blessing,” said Lawless.

“Memorial Hermann’s vision is to create healthier communities, now and for generations to come,” said Noel J. Cárdenas, FACHE, Sr. Vice President & CEO of Memorial Hermann Southeast and Pearland Hospitals. “Through our many community-based programs, we not only want to help people dealing with mental health challenges, but we also want to reduce the stigma associated with this illness.  We are proud to partner with Counseling Connections for Change, Inc. to bring awareness to this growing concern in our community.”

“While we are overflowing with gratitude, we have work to do,” said Shannan Murray, Development Coordinator. “Texas is ranked 51st in the USA for access to mental health care and 3rd in prevalence to mental illness. This dynamic must change. Access to expert mental health care is key. By buying BBQ plates and sponsoring this event, Memorial Hermann is helping a neighbor in need and Counseling Connections to continue to positively impact the lives of the individuals and families we are so honored to serve”, said Murray. BBQ proceeds benefit the HOPE Fund which provides free and reduced clinical mental health services for the uninsured and at-need in our community. In the last 10 years, Counseling Connections has provided more than $1.8 million in free and reduced services through the HOPE Fund.

Businesses and the public can get involved. The Drive Thru BBQ is Sunday, October 22, 11am-2 pm at the Lions Club of Pearland, 3350 South Main Street, Pearland, Texas 77581.
