Former ACC TDCJ Director Given Lifetime Achievement Award

After nearly 20 years of assisting students inside the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, former Alvin Community College TDCJ Director Sara Bouse was recently given a lifetime achievement award for her contributions.
The Texas Correction Educational Conference awarded her the Lifetime Achievement Honor during their re-entry conference recently at Lee College.

This award is very humbling,” Bouse said. “Truly the recognition in this story goes to Alvin Community College— the board and administration for supporting our incarcerated students for more than half a century.”

She began working with incarcerated students in 2000 and the program has grown to more than 500 students at seven units. As director she oversaw the implementation of the New Beginnings program, the Second Chance Pell Program and more.

The New Beginnings program provides training and education to students recently released from incarceration or are soon to be released. ACC was one of 18 programs to receive funds from the Texas Talent Connection Grants.

The New Beginnings Program and the hiring of one of our TDCJ Alumni has been a heart-warming wrap to my time of serving incarcerated students,” Bouse said.

Bouse now serves as a grant manager for the college.
